Project Finance Associate

Old Saybrook, CT (remote work considered)

TELYON is seeking a Project Finance Associate to join its team at our headquarters in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. This position will play a key role in supporting the financing, financial analysis, and execution of TELYON’s growing portfolio of commercial and industrial solar, energy storage, and renewable energy projects. The Project Finance Associate will work cross-functionally with Finance, Development, Business Development, Operations, Engineering, Construction, and Legal to evaluate project economics, maintain financial models, support financing transactions, manage project-level financial analysis, and help drive projects from development through financing and construction. The ideal candidate will have strong financial modeling and analytical skills, an understanding of project finance and investment fundamentals, and an interest in renewable energy. Experience within solar, energy storage, infrastructure, project finance, investment banking, private equity, or renewable energy development is strongly preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:      

  • Build, maintain, and update detailed financial models for solar, battery storage, and other renewable energy projects.
  • Evaluate project economics, including cash flows, returns, capital requirements, debt capacity, and investment metrics such as IRR, NPV, and cash-on-cash returns.
  • Perform sensitivity and scenario analyses around project costs, energy production, revenue, financing assumptions, tax incentives, and other key project variables.
  • Support the structuring and execution of project financing transactions, including debt, tax equity, sponsor equity, and other sources of capital.
  • Assist with lender, investor, and financing partner diligence processes, including preparation and organization of financial information, project documentation, and supporting materials.
  • Support the preparation of investment memoranda, financing presentations, management reports, and other internal and external materials.
  • Analyze project budgets, EPC costs, development costs, operating expenses, financing costs, and long-term project cash flows.
  • Track project-level sources and uses of capital and monitor funding requirements throughout development and construction.
  • Support project cash flow forecasting and coordination of capital calls, funding requests, and financing milestones.
  • Work closely with Development, Engineering, Construction, and Procurement teams to incorporate current project assumptions into financial models and forecasts.
  • Review and analyze PPAs, leases, interconnection costs, EPC contracts, O&M agreements, and other commercial agreements for their impact on project economics.
  • Support financial analysis related to federal and state renewable energy incentives, including Investment Tax Credits (ITC), Production Tax Credits (PTC), IRA-related incentives, depreciation, and other applicable programs.
  • Assist with financial diligence for potential project acquisitions, partnerships, and development opportunities.
  • Monitor actual project performance against underwriting assumptions, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Identify financial risks, variances, and opportunities and communicate findings to internal stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Maintain organized financial models, project finance documentation, transaction materials, and supporting data.
  • Assist with portfolio-level reporting, forecasting, and analysis as TELYON's renewable energy portfolio continues to grow.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field preferred
  • 1–5+ years of relevant experience in project finance, renewable energy, investment banking, infrastructure investing, private equity, corporate finance, financial analysis, or a related field.
  • Renewable energy experience, particularly within commercial and industrial solar, community solar, distributed generation, or battery energy storage, is strongly preferred.
  • Strong financial modeling skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial statements, cash flow analysis, valuation, and investment return metrics.
  • Experience evaluating project-level economics and performing sensitivity and scenario analysis.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy financing structures, including debt, tax equity, and sponsor equity, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy tax incentives, including the ITC and Inflation Reduction Act, is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and financial workstreams simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across Finance, Development, Engineering, Construction, Legal, and executive leadership.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing organization.
